Sunflower Protein Powder
20 gs
Why its in our bar: Sunflower is not your normal protein source.
The majority of the protein content in our bar (and almost all other bars besides the synthetic ones) come from a protein powder.
Sunflower Butter Pastes
What it is: Roasted sunflower seeds ground into a paste. [Confirm: only seeds and salt? Any added oil or sugar?]
Why it’s in there: It’s the second-biggest source of protein in the bar after our sunflower protein flour. It also adds fat for texture and richness, and it’s what makes the bar nut-free while still tasting like a nut-butter bar.
The tradeoff: It’s calorie-dense. Most of a seed butter’s calories come from fat. A sunflower allergy is uncommon but real. Also, sunflower seeds contain a natural compound, chlorogenic acid, that can turn green when it reacts with alkaline ingredients. It’s harmless, but if you ever see a green tint, that’s the cause.
Quick facts: A typical 2-tbsp serving of sunflower butter has about 200 calories, 7g protein, and 16–17g fat. Peanut-free and tree-nut-free. [Confirm your supplier’s facility allergen statement.]
What it is: Cocoa beans with most of the cocoa butter pressed out, ground to a powder. Ours is a higher-fat “breakfast” cocoa, which keeps 22–24% of the cocoa butter. Standard cocoa keeps 10–12%. [Natural / processed with alkali: confirm.]
Why it’s in there: Flavor. It’s the chocolate in a chocolate bar. We picked a higher-fat cocoa on purpose. Regular cocoa is very drying, and a lot of what people call “chalky” in chocolate protein bars comes from the cocoa, not the protein. The extra cocoa butter softens that.
The tradeoff: We use a small amount, so it adds flavor rather than nutrition. Cocoa as a crop also has well-documented problems: cadmium and lead can occur in cocoa grown in some regions, and parts of the supply chain have labor abuses. [State what you actually do: test results from your supplier, origin, any certification. If you don’t have answers yet, say you’re working on it. Don’t imply more than you have.]
Quick facts: About [X]g per bar. Plant-based. Contains a small amount of naturally occurring caffeine.

Sunflower Oil
What it is: High-oleic sunflower oil, expeller-pressed. That means it’s pressed mechanically rather than extracted with solvents. “High-oleic” means it comes from sunflowers bred to make mostly monounsaturated fat, the same main fat in olive oil.
Why it’s in there: Texture. A small amount keeps the bar soft and stops it drying out on the shelf. We chose high-oleic because it resists going rancid better than regular sunflower oil, which matters in a bar without preservatives. It also keeps the whole bar sunflower-based.
The tradeoff: It adds calories and no protein. It’s purely functional. We also know some people avoid “seed oils.” Our view: the evidence doesn’t support most of the claims against them, and high-oleic sunflower oil is low in the omega-6 fats those concerns usually focus on. If you avoid seed oils anyway, this bar has some, and we’d rather you know that.
Quick facts: About [X]g per bar. Neutral flavor. [Confirm % oleic from the Baja Precious spec sheet; high-oleic is typically 80%+.]
